Ex-Latham & Watkins Partners Form Hollywood Firm Shoemaker Luti

Two former Latham & Watkins associates are braving the economic slump and forming their own Hollywood-based law firm, Shoemaker Luti, they announced yesterday.
Diep M. Shoemaker and Anthony N. Luti said the time was right for a firm like theirs.
Shoemaker told the MetNews the new firm’s focus would differ from Latham’s.
“We’re going to do more plaintiffs-side work on smaller matters,” she said. “Ideally we’re going to work on general business litigation.”
Shoemaker added that the two-partner firm has a three-year business plan and hopes to have 10 lawyers in its lineup by then.
“By focusing on a few areas, doing them well, and keeping our eye on the client’s needs, we can prosper in, and help grow the business community in Los Angeles,” Shoemaker said.
Luti, who earned a joint law degree and master’s of business administration from Howard University in Washington, D.C., is a former law clerk to U.S. District Judge Wiley Y. Daniel of the District of Colorado. He became a member of the State Bar in 2000.
At Latham his practice focused on intellectual property, labor and employment law and business litigation.
Shoemaker worked on similar matters, plus immigration law.
She earned her law degree from Boston University School of Law, after receiving a master’s in archeological studies, also from Boston University.
Shoemaker also studied comparative law at Oxford. She became a State Bar member in 2001.
The pair chose nearly 1,500 square feet of office space in the House of Blues office building at Sunset and Vine.
