Aviation law specialist and former airline executive Lawrence M. Nagin has joined O’Melveny & Myers as “of counsel,” the firm has announced.

A former Los Angeles assistant city attorney who served as legal adviser to the city’s Department of Airports, Nagin most recently was general counsel and executive vice president of corporate affairs for US Airways Group and US Airways, Inc. Before that he served in a similar capacity for UAL Corp. and United Airlines, Inc., and before that for The Flying Tiger Line Inc.

“O’Melveny & Myers embodies professionalism and the commitment to uncompromising excellence. I am proud to be a part of and able to contribute to such a successful enterprise,” Nagin said.

O’Melveny chairman Arthur B. Culvahouse Jr. said the firm looks forward to Nagin’s contributions.

“Attracting premier talent like Larry Nagin is a testament to our success and a harbinger of the strong client service we will accomplish in the future,” Culvahouse said. “Our clients look forward to Larry’s contributions in the strategic counseling, governmental affairs, as well as the financial, labor and employment practice areas.”

Nagin graduated from USC and earned his law degree from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco.

He recently was named to the new board of directors of Laidlaw Corporation. In 2000, Nagin was honored with the “Diversity 2000 Award” by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association and American Lawyer Media Corp for promoting and encouraging hiring of minorities.
