The Commission on Judicial Appointments has scheduled an Oct. 3 confirmation hearing in Los Angeles for San Diego Superior Court Judge Judith McConnell, nominated by Gov. Gray Davis to the Fourth District Court of Appeal.

The hearing will begin at 3 p.m. in the courtroom of the Ronald Reagan Building.

McConnell was nominated Wednesday to succeed Justice Don Work of Div. One. Work died May 16.

When considering nominations in the Fourth District, the commission consists of  Chief Justice Ronald M. George, Attorney General Bill Lockyer; and Court of Appeal Presiding Justice Daniel J. Kremer of Div. One, the senior presiding justice in the district.

The deadline for written comment on the nomination, or to notify the commission that one wishes to speak at the hearing, is Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. The commission requested  that communications be addressed to the chief justice at 350 McAllister Street, San Francisco, CA 94102, Attention:  Ms. Gale Tunnell, Secretary to the Commission on Judicial Appointments.

Requests to speak must include a summary of the facts on which any testimony or opinion will be based.

Davis has had nine Court of Appeal nominees confirmed since taking office two years ago, all without substantial opposition.
