24 Chosen for 2002-2003 Los Angeles County Civil Grand Jury

A group of 13 men and 11 women were selected in a random drawing yesterday to serve as panelists on the 2002-2003 Los Angeles County civil grand jury.
The 23-member panel, which serves as a county watchdog, probing government programs and agencies, will be sworn in July 1 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
The civil grand jury, which does not conduct criminal investigations or hand up indictments, is made up entirely of people who volunteer to participate by application or are nominated by Superior Court judges. Civil grand jurors sit for a 12-month period, normally serve five days a week, and receive a stipend of $25 for each day served, plus mileage.
The original grand juror pool of 102 applicants was pared down to 40 potential grand jurors and 10 alternates in a random drawing in April. Along with the civil grand jurors, 15 alternates were drawn yesterday to fill any vacancies on the board throughout the year in the order they were selected.
2002-2003 civil grand jurors: Robert Simpson, William Selditz, Pearl Henderson, Terry Black, Donald Manning, Minnie Jones, Linda Bender-Williams, William Turner, David Maurer, Katherine Todd, Patricia Hopkins, Arthur Johnson, Ira Thierer, Edwin Isenberg, Robert Manners, Laura Holmes, Andy Larrigan, Corrine De La Cruz, Harry Weed, Dolores Munoz, Sandra Rendell, Nancy Trask and Donald Plunkett.
Alternates, in the order they were selected, are: Henry Zaragoza, Kristine De Quieroz, Richard Niederberg, Willie Booker, William Wagner, Henry Liang, John Andes, John Hasselbrink, Wee Wong, Angelica Stevenson, Frederick Wallace, Kenneth Wullschleger, Senen De la Torre, William Grasska and Dora Esparza.
