Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lawrence Crispo has been awarded a scholarship by the State Justice Institute to attend a Law and Ethics workshop later this month.

The workshop, entitled “Philosophical Ethics and Decisionmaking: Criminal and Civil Cases,” is sponsored by the State Justice Institute. It will be held in Bar Harbor, Maine from Aug. 25-30.

“Being a member of the [California Judges Association] ethics committee, I thought it would be useful to get some exposure to those kinds of issues,” Crispo told the MetNews.

He is one of two Los Angeles Superior Court judges attending SJI programs this month. Judge Malcolm Mackey is slated to be at a workshop on another topic in Whitefish, Mont. Aug. 18-24.

Crispo, a former prosecutor and civil trial lawyer, previously tried criminal cases and now holds a civil assignment in downtown Los Angeles.

SJI, is a nonprofit organization established by federal law to offer grants to improve the quality of justice in state courts. Information about SJI can be obtained from its website, http://www.statejustice.org.
