Jo-Ann Grace Named to Chair Campaign Watch Commission

By a MetNews Staff Writer

Metropolitan News Company President Jo-Ann W. Grace has been named chair of the Campaign Watch Commission, the organization said yesterday.

Grace, who heads the company that publishes the MetNews and other newspapers, and who is also co-publisher of the MetNews, replaces former City Councilman Marvin Braude as head of the group.

The self-perpetuating commission reviews claims that candidates for local office, or for state and federal offices representing Los Angeles districts, have failed to uphold a “high ethical standard”  of campaigning, Julie Rajan explained. Rajan is the executive director of the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles, which started the commission and provides its staff support.

The commission is also supported by local civic and religious organizations.

Commission members include former District Attorney Robert Philibosian, attorney Bonfacio Garcia, physician and Muslim community leader Maher Hathout, Asian Pacific American Legal Center President Stewart Kwoh, USC professor and former Los Angeles Community College Trustee David Lopez-Lee, attorney and former NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund Executive Director Constance Rice, and attorney and former American Jewish Committee official Richard Volpert.
