Nowland Hong Elected Managing Officer of Brown, Winfield and Canzoneri

Veteran litigator Nowland Hong has been elected managing officer by the shareholders of Brown, Winfield and Canzoneri, the Los Angeles firm said yesterday.
Hong succeeds Anthony Canzoneri, who co-founded the firm in 1974 and will now serve as chairman, the firm said in a release. Canzoneri will remain in charge of marketing and strategic planning, the firm said.
The firm represents Fortune 500 and smaller corporations, banks, railroads, real estate developers, investors and lenders, as well as local government agencies. It has represented Los Angeles County in various matters, and is one of a handful of firms representing the City of Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency in real estate matters.
The first has grown from 24 to 38 lawyers in the past four years, through such moves as the addition of four lawyers, including Hong, from Parker, Milliken, Clark, O’Hara & Samuelian.
Hong said yesterday in a statement:
“I am honored to be the firm’s Managing Officer and [to become] part of continuing the firm’s successful growth and vision in the coming years. As Managing Officer, my goal will be to manage the firm’s growth to maximize our value to our clients while keeping our profitability at the highest possible level.”
Hong has been in private practice since 1973 and has been a lawyer for more than 40 years. He has acted as trial counsel in the MGM Hotel fire case, represented the county in the Big Rock Mesa Malibu landslide case, and was counsel for the National Organization of Life & Health Guarantee Associations in connection with the Reorganization of Executive Life Insurance Company.
Before joining the private sector, he was an assistant Los Angeles city attorney, serving as chief counsel for the Port of Los Angeles.
Canzoneri had the following comment about the leadership changes:
