Two local attorneys have been named partner at Allen Matkins Leck Gamble & Mallory.

Deborah L. Babb and Todd E. Whitman were among five lawyers elected partner at the 210-lawyer, five-office business and real estate firm.  Babb practices at the firm’s Los Angeles office and Whitman is based at the Century City office.

Also elected were Jan S. Driscoll and Allen B. Walburn in San Diego and Sandra A. Jacobson in Orange County.  The firm, which has in addition an office in San Francisco, now has 102 partners.

The 34-year-old Babb has a practice concentrating on commercial real estate transactions, especially leasing, and provides advice to landlord clients on property management issues.  She earned her law degree at USC in 1994 after graduating from Smith College in 1991.

Whitman, 35, focuses his practice on commercial litigation with an emphasis on partnership and large-scale contract disputes. He litigation background includes experience representing numerous partners in breach of fiduciary duty lawsuits and commercial landlords on a range of real estate issues.

Also a 1994 graduate of USC’s School of Law, Whitman earned his undergraduate degree in 1989 from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

In a statement released by the firm, managing partner Brian Leck said the firm was “expanding in key practice areas” despite the economic downturn in California and nationwide.  The new partners will “play an important role” in that expansion, Leck declared.

Allen Matkins was ranked 10th in a survey of Southern California’s top-grossing firms for last year published in the California Recorder in March.
