The Commission on Judicial Appointments yesterday confirmed the elevation of Rashida Adams from associate justice to presiding justice of Div. Three of this district’s Court of Appeal.
Adams, a graduate of Yale Law School, was nominated for the position by Gov. Gavin Newsom earlier this month. She is slated to replace Presiding Justice Lee Edmon, who retired in June.
She has sat on the Court of Appeal since 2023 and served as a Los Angeles Superior Court judge from 2017-23. Before her time on the bench, she worked in private practice and as a senior appellate court attorney for Div. Eight.
The move was unanimously approved by the three-member commission, consisting of Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero, Attorney General Rob Bonta, and Presiding Justice Frances Rothschild of this district’s Div. One.
Yesterday’s actions included the confirmation of Juliet Macaulay as presiding justice of Div. Three of the Fourth District Court of Appeal as well as Newsom’s nomination of Lisa Rodriguez and Marsha Amin to associate justice positions on that court’s Div. One.
Each of the confirmations is subject to voter approval during the Nov. 3 general election, with terms to begin on Jan. 4.
