Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joseph A. Brandolino is readying to leave the bench after nearly 25 years of service.
His last actual day on the bench will be Feb. 10. Judge After using up earned vacation days, Brandolino will officially retire on March 31.
Appointed by then-Gov. Gray Davis, he began that service on Aug. 4, 2000. He was an assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California at the time the governor selected him.
Earlier, he was an associate at O’Melveny & Myers.
Fair Treatment
Brandolino reflected on Friday:
“As I depart after over 25 years as a judge, I think of the many people who have appeared in my court as attorneys, jurors, defendants, victims, and members of the public. I did my best to properly apply the law, make the best decisions under the circumstances, and treat everyone fairly.
“I also think of the dedicated judicial colleagues, administrators, court staff, and justice partners with whom I have served. There are so many who work hard every day, often under stressful conditions, to effectuate the crucial mission of keeping our system of justice functioning. I feel privileged to have served our community alongside them.”
Retirement Plans
The judge related:
“I have no specific plans for retirement. I look forward to the next phase of my life. After a lifetime of working, I will particularly enjoy not having to be somewhere every day. I hope for less stress, a healthier lifestyle, more travel, spending more time making music with my neighborhood band, and spending more quality time with family and friends. I plan on sitting on assignment, so I expect to occasionally return to judging and catch up with court friends.”
He received his law degree from Harvard in 1986. So did his twin brother and roommate at Harvard, John Brandolino.
