Armendariz, Slayton Have Spots on Judicial Council

Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero announced yesterday that she has reappointed Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maria Lucy Armendariz and has named that court’s chief executive officer, David Slayton as a non-voting advisory member of that body.

Armendariz was appointed to the Superior Court by then-Gov. Jerry  Brown in 2018 and was placed on the Judicial Council by then-Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye on Sept. 15, 2022. Jer law degree is from Hastings.

Slayton, who has had 26 years of experience in court administration, was elected by Superior Court judges as executive officer in November 2022 and took office on Jan. 2, 2023.

Also reappointed to the Judicial Council was Court of Appeal Justice Joan K. Irion of the Fourth District’s Div. One, elevated from non-voting to voting status.

Newly appointed voting members are San Francisco Superior Court Judge Michael Rhoads and Sacramento Assistant Public Defender Dena Stone.

Chosen as advisory members, other than Slayton, were Sacramento Presiding Judge Patricia L. Kelly and Solano Superior Court Judge Jeffrey C. Kauffman.

Three-year terms commence on Sept. 15.
