Hochman: No Decision Made on Prosecution of Perryman
By a MetNews Staff Writer
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman yesterday issued a statement contradicting widespread news reports that his office has decided not to prosecute Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman on weapons charges.
Perryman was arrested by sheriff’s deputies Friday night after spotting five weapons in his vehicle, including two assault-style rifles. He had been stopped for an alleged traffic violation.
The purported decision not to prosecute was reported by the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, USA Today, NBC, CBS, ESPN, Fox News, and other outlets.
Hochman said:
“Our office is aware of erroneous information circulating in several news reports regarding the status of Denzel Perryman’s case stemming from an arrest on Friday, August 1, 2025. Contrary to some media reports, no decision has been made to decline charges or forgo prosecution.
“The case was reviewed by prosecutors for filing consideration and, on August 4, it was returned to law enforcement for further investigation. As of today, the case remains under active investigation. Once that process is complete, law enforcement may resubmit the case to our office for further review and consideration of potential charges.
“We remain committed to ensuring that all cases are thoroughly and fairly evaluated based on the evidence.”
