C.A. Justice Grimes Retires

By a MetNews Staff Writer

Elizabeth A. Grimes has retired as a member of the Court of Appeal for this district.

Her departure, effective last Saturday, was announced by the court on its website. It commented:

“Justice Grimes’ retirement marks the end of nearly three decades of judicial service to California. The Court expresses its deep appreciation for her distinguished service and wishes her well in retirement.”

Grimes, 71, served on Div. Eight since 2010. She was appointed to her post by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

She was, at the time of the appointment, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge. She was placed on that court in 1997 by Gov. Pete Wilson.

The entirety of her legal career—which began with her admission to the State Bar in 1980 after graduating from the law school at Stanford—was spent at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher where, after eight years, she became a partner.
