The remaining applicants for Los Angeles Superior Court commissionerships who were placed on the February 2025 eligibility list by a selections committee will all be gaining black robes.
Although electronic balloting is taking place—which ends July 31—it’s merely a formality. There are four vacancies and four candidates.
They are Los Angeles Superior Court research attorney Stephen Morcos, Beverly Hills private practitioner David Howard Friedman, Deputy Los Angeles County Counsel Naomi Cohen, and Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Ryan Dibble.
Morcos’s law degree is from Southwestern; Friedman earned his at Loyola; Cohen matriculated at the University of San Diego School of Law; Dibble is a graduate of the USC Gould School of Law.
Dibble in 2022 was a candidate for a Los Angeles Superior Court open seat, losing in the primary. The seat was won in a run-off by then-Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Fernanda Maria Barreto.
