Kawahara, Duron to Retire as Court Commissioners
By a MetNews Staff Writer
There are two upcoming vacancies in Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner posts, with Robert M. Kawahara and Armando Duron being set to retire.
Kawahara’s last day on the bench and his official retirement will take place Aug 29. Duron’s final day as a commissioner will be Sept. 12 and, after using earned vacation days, he will officially depart on Oct. 3.
Judges of the Superior Court elected Kawahara as a commissioner in 2002. He was, at the time, a sole practitioner.
He is a past president of the Japanese American Bar Association of Southern California.
Admitted to practice in 1980, his law degree is from the University of San Francisco.
Duron won his post in 2015. When elected, he was an immigration attorney.
He earned his law degree at UCLA.
In 2018, he was defeated in a contest with then-Deputy District Attorney Emily Spear for a Los Angeles Superior Court open seat. (Spear was defeated last year in a reelection bid.)
