Judge-Elect Kimberly Repecka Expresses Gratitude

Los Angeles Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Repecka, who has defeated Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Emily Spear in her re-election bid, provided the following statement late Thursday:

I started this campaign with low expectations about my chances of success. I just felt strongly that L.A. County voters deserve judicial officers who—regardless of the cause before them—treat the work as important because it is so deeply important.

Patience is a virtue for bench officers and journalists: it’s important to not pass judgment until all the facts are in. With 8,200 votes left to count, I want to humbly express how grateful I am for the support I have received during this campaign from [the METNEWS],  from the L.A. Times and every other media outlet that gave me an opportunity to reach voters; from the many organizations that endorsed me; and from my friends, family, and colleagues. I appreciate every single donor and voter who turned up to support and to say that judicial officers owe them their diligence and their best work and that no person is entitled to an ongoing position of power and trust because of mere momentum.

I did not take up this challenge lightly and I promise the residents of L.A. County that I do not and will not ever take this position for granted. I intend to continue to earn the confidence of voters and the other 75% of L.A. County residents every single day. Thank you for this opportunity. Thank you for your trust.
