Deputy Attorney General Gary Rowe of the Central District of California has been appointed as a judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court.

The Office of Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the selection of Rowe late Wednesday.

The appointee previously worked as a deputy federal public defender from 2014-23 and as an associate at Greines, Martin, Stein and Richland LLP from 2011-14.

He was on inactive State Bar status from 1995-2011. During that period, he had teaching posts.

He received his law degree from Yale. Rowe fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Christine Byrd.

Newsom made appointments of seven others to superior courts, two in Orange County, one in San Bernardino County, one in San Diego County, one in Ventura County, one in Nevada County, and one in Yolo County.
