LASC Judge Dianna Gould-Saltman to Retire

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dianna Gould-Saltman—who practiced family law for 25 years before going on the bench and has been assigned to the Family Law Department for 13 of the 13½ years she’s been a judge—is readying to go on to other endeavors.

Her last day on the bench will be Jan. 12, and, after using up earned vacation days, she will officially retire on March 1.

Gould-Saltman was awarded an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of California, Irvine in 1979, and went on to obtain a law degree from Southwestern in 1985.

This year, the judge received the Spencer Brandeis Award, conferred by the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Family Law Section. According to the association, the award “is presented, when deemed merited, to pay tribute to an individual who has had an extraordinary impact upon the advancement of family law by way of creative legal advocacy and commitment to the service of the family law community.”

Also this year, Gould-Saltman was presented with the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts’s John E. Van Duzer Distinguished Service Award.

She was named the “Family Law Judge of the Year” in 2013 by the Pasadena Bar Association’s Family Law Section and “Los Angeles County Judge of the Year” in 2014 by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. In 2015, Gould-Saltman received the Levitt and Quinn Family Law Center’s Outstanding Community Service Award and the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists’ Hall of Fame Award.

With frequency, she has delivered talks on family law and participated in panel discussions on the topic, also writing about it.
