Commission Confirms Nominations of Four to Court of Appeal Vacancies

The Commission on Judicial Appointments yesterday confirmed the nomination of Brian Currey, an associate Court of Appeal justice on this district’s Div. Four since 2018, as presiding justice of that division, and approved the elevation of Helen Zukin from a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to the seat being vacated by Currey.
It also ratified the selection of Deputy Judicial Appointments Secretary Gonzalo Martinez as a justice of Div. Seven of this district’s Court of Appeal and the elevation of Laurie Earl, an associate justice of the Third District Court of Appeal since 2022, as presiding justice of the district.
Currey replaces Presiding Justice Nora Manella and Martinez succeeds Justice Laurie D. Zelon. Manella and Zelon retired.
Earl fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Presiding Justice Vance W. Raye.
