By a MetNews Staff Writer

The race for Los Angeles city attorney remained close on Friday, with an update in the tally showing civil rights attorney Faisal M. Gill in first place and private practitioner Hydee Feldstein Soto in second place.

Civil practitioner Marina Torres who, on election night was in the lead, in last Tuesday’s tally slipped to third place, where she remains. But it is uncertain who will be in the Nov. 8 run-off with Gill, who has 24.22 percent of the ballots; the update shows that Soto has attracted 19.90 percent of the ballots and Torres garnered 19.87 percent of the votes.

Trailing and seemingly out of the running are Deputy City Attorney Richard Kim, former Board of Public Works President Kevin James, former Deputy City Attorney Sherri Onica Valle Cole, and bankruptcy lawyer Teddy M. Kapur.

In the race for Los Angeles Superior Court Office No. 90, Deputy Public Defender Kevin Thomas McGurk remains in third place, but is close to the Kapoor holder of second place, Deputy District Attorney Leslie Gutierrez. Deputy District Attorney Melissa Lyons has 35.28 percent, Gutierrez is at 27.76 percent, and McGurk trails only slightly at 27.58 percent.

There will be another update tomorrow, and final certification is slated for Friday.

So far, 1,619,226 ballots have been counted.
