Presiding Judge Taylor Derides Hate Crimes

By a MetNews Staff Writer

Los Angeles Superior Court Presiding Judge Eric C. Taylor yesterday released the following statement:

T

he Los Angeles Superior Court, its judicial officers and employees stand firmly with our Chief Justice, Tani Cantil-Sakauye, and our community leaders denouncing all violence and discrimination based on hate, bigotry or prejudice. Our country continues its historical struggle against saddening racial divides, and now with the alarming and unacceptable targeting of many in our Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in California and across our nation.

Together, we have a responsibility and a moral obligation to confront and eliminate institutional discrimination against all people - regardless of race, sex, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. Each of us knows in our hearts that silence is not an option in the face of injustice.

Our Constitution, our democracy and our Courts stand for the proposition of equality and inclusion. The despicable actions of a few will not change that, nor will the voices of a few misguided outliers silence our chorus of solidarity that celebrates the differences that make us, as Americans, truly great.
