C.A. Justice Menetrez Seeks Transfer to L.A.

Court of Appeal Justice Frank J. Menetrez of the Fourth District’s Div. Two, headquarted in Riverside, wants to come home to Los Angeles, where he served on the Superior Court from 2015-18, and is seeking appointment to a vacancy in the appeals court for this district.

Appointed to his present post by then-Gov. Jerry Brown on Oct. 26, 2018, he served as a judicial attorney for the Court of Appeal in Los Angeles from 2005-15. He was attorney at Sidley Austin LLP from 2001-04 and Horvitz and Levy LLP from 2004-05.

His law degree is from UCLA.

Menetrez, 55, has not responded to a request for comment.Among others seeking appointment to the Court of Appeal for this district is the 2000-01 Los Angeles County Bar Association president, Rex Heinke, who recently joined the California Appellate Law Group. He is 71.

Heinke was defeated in his quest for the position of 2010-11 State Bar president.

There are four vacancies on the court. The post of Div. Eight presiding justice was created by the retirement of Tricia Bigalow and three divisions—One, Three, and Seven—have openings for an associate justice.
