McComb Appointed State Public Defender

Gov. Jerry Brown yesterday appointed Mary Katherine McComb as state public defender.

The appointment is subject to state Senate confirmation.

McComb, 58, has served as a supervising deputy state public defender since 2010 and was a deputy in the office for eight years before that.

She was admitted to the State Bar of California on Jan. 8, 1991. McComb was an associate at the Michigan law firm of Kelman Loria from 1990-91.

Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Kansas, and she earned her law degree at Stanford.

The annual pay is $153,953.88.
