35.7 Percent of Applicants Pass State Bar Exam

By a MetNews Staff Writer

The Committee of Bar Examiners reported Friday that 35.7 percent of the applicants passed the February 2016 bar exam.

That amounts to about 1,700 people who will join the ranks of lawyers if they also pass the moral fitness review.

The committee said that “preliminary statistical analyses” showed that of the 4,758 applicants who took the latest bar exam, 29.3 percent were first-time takers. The passing rate for the 1,395 first-time applicants was 45.0 percent overall.

As a general rule, most of those taking the February exam are those who had failed the one administered in June.
