A vigil and funeral mass will be held on Sunday and Monday for Peter B. Dolan, who practiced law in Los Angeles for nearly a half century.

Dolan died Wednesday at the age of 76, daughter, Kerry Dolan Button told the MetNews, following a 16-month battle with bone marrow cancer.

He joined Macdonald Halstead & Laybourne in 1967 and became a partner there in 1972. He was a partner at Overton Lyman & Prince from 197 to 1987; at Morrison & Foerster from 1987 to 1993; and at Morgan Lewis & Bockius from 1993 to 1999.

He established his own downtown practice, The Dolan Law Office, in 1999 and operated it until last year.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y—“he liked to boast that he met his bride of 53 years... in first grade at St. Anselm’s School,” his daughter said—he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1960. He served to the rank of commander in the Naval Reserve.

A graduate of USC’s law school, he particularly enjoyed ski trips and summer vacations in Cape Cod with his six grandchildren, Button said.

A past president of the Chancery Club of Los Angeles, he was a member of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association from 1973 to 2005, and president of the West Pasadena Residents Association from 1979 to 1981. He was an active member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and Association of Business Trial Lawyers, as well as the State Bar, serving on the Executive Committee of the Senior Lawyers Section of LACBA prior to his illness.

Survivors, in addition to Button, include Dolan’s wife, Jacqueline Gruning Dolan, and son, Peter Jacob-Dolan.

Sunday’s vigil will be held at 7 pm at Cabot & Sons, 27 Chestnut St., Pasadena. Monday’s funeral mass will be at Holy Family Church in South Pasadena at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be sent in Peter Dolan’s name to the California Province of the Society of Jesus, P.O. Box 68, Los Gatos, CA or the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation Attn: Tribute Gifts, 291 Wood Rd., Beach Hall, Annapolis, MD 21402.
