State Bar Slates Admission Ceremony for Newest Lawyers

 

The State Bar of California has scheduled an admission ceremony program for newly admitted lawyers before Div.Three of this district’s Court of Appeal on Dec. 10 at 10 a.m.

The ceremony will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center, Ballroom B, located at 300 E. Green Street in Pasadena. Speakers will include Presiding Justice Joan Dempsey Klein as well as Associate Justices H. Walter Croskey, Patti S. Kitching and Richard D. Aldrich.

Joseph Lane, clerk of the court, will administer the oath. U.S. District Judge Fernando M. Olguin of the Central District of California will offer separate remarks and administer the oath to State Bar members also seeking to practice before the district court.

The Italian American Lawyers Association will host “California Supreme Court Night” on Dec. 4.

The event will take place at the Casa Italiana restaurant located at 1051 North Broadway in Los Angeles. Attendees will be treated to an “authentic Italian dinner” along with music from attorney/conductor Gary Green and his Big Band of Barristers.

The Association of California Insurance Companies (ACIC) reports that Armand Feliciano has been appointed as chair of the California State Bar Insurance Committee for 2013-2014.

Feliciano serves as vice president of state affairs for ACIC and advocates on property-casualty legislative and regulatory issues before the California Legislature and other state agencies.

He said in a release:

“I am honored to chair this committee and look forward to working with some of California’s best insurance lawyers. The California State Bar Committee process is an excellent opportunity for lawyers to weigh in on issues as subject matter experts, provide thought leadership on evolving policy and legal issues, and contribute back to the legal community.”

The committee meets once a month in different regions of the state to review appellate cases, provide expertise on policy issues, draft legislation, and comment on regulatory matters.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maria E. Stratton will be temporarily assigned to cover Department 95, Mental Health Court, Los Angeles, from Monday through the end of the calendar year.  She currently presides in Department T, Van Nuys East Courthouse.

Judge Huey Cotton will assume Stratton’s responsibilities as assistant supervising judge of the Northwest District. 

The Beverly Hills Bar Association presents “Lunch At The Bar,” a monthly opportunity to meet with its members, leaders and staff. The gathering will take place next Monday from noon to 2 p.m.  at the association’s conference center at 9420 Wilshire Boulevard, 2nd Floor.

Attendees are asked to bring their lunch. Soft drinks and chips will be provided.

The Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles is hosting a holiday reception on Dec. 4 at City Club Los Angeles, 555 S. Flower Street, 51st Floor, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Emilie H. Elias will provide a keynote speech. Wine, hors d’oeuvres and desert will be served.
