By a MetNews Staff Writer

Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP Friday announced that Guy N. Halgren has been elected to a fifth consecutive term as chairman.

No other chairman has held the post for more than three three-year terms.

Lawrence M. Braun, a Los Angeles-based partner who serves on the firm’s Executive Committee, said the firm was “very fortunate” to have Halgren in charge.

“He’s smart, fair and forward-thinking,” Braun said in a statement. “Guy has been instrumental in growing the firm in terms of size, locations, and practice areas, while preserving Sheppard Mullin’s tradition of collegiality and entrepreneurship.”

The firm noted that is has more than 600 lawyers, more than double the number 12 years ago. The firm, which had offices in four locations when Halgren was first elected, is now in 16 places, including Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Brussels and London.

The firm cited substantial revenue growth, establishment of an institutional entertainment and media practice in 2003, the significant growth of its intellectual property practice, and the strengthening of other practice areas—antitrust, corporate law, finance & bankruptcy, government contracts, labor and employment, litigation, real estate/land use and taxation—as highlights of Halgren’s tenure.

The firm also said it had re-elected partner Robert S. Beall, a business litigator in Orange County, to the managing attorney position he has held since 2005; elected corporate partner Jon W. Newby of Century City to the newly created position of vice chairman, and elected partners Geraldine Ann Freeman, Jerry J. Gumpel and Hal Milstein to the Executive Committee.
