Superior Court Judges, Commissioner to Move Next Month

 

The Los Angeles Superior Court reports the following new judicial assignments, effective Dec. 3:

Judge Victor H. Greenberg is assigned to Department 56, Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, where he will also serve as assistant supervising judge for limited jurisdiction criminal cases. He previously sat in Department 71, Metropolitan Courthouse.

Judge David Herriford will become site judge at Metropolitan Courthouse, Los Angeles, where he is newly assigned to Department 71. His previous assignment was Department 40 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Commissioner Donald S. Kennedy is assigned to Department 40 at Foltz Criminal Justice Center. He will be moving from Department 63 at the Metropolitan Courthouse.

Alston & Bird LLP announced Friday that James R. Evans Jr. has joined its litigation team as a partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office.

The firm said in a press release:

“With a national practice, Mr. Evans has nearly 30 years of experience defending complex and high exposure lawsuits in state and federal courts. He has developed a reputation among his clients for his ability to successfully resolve their most difficult disputes.”

It added:

“A seasoned trial attorney, Mr. Evans has extensive class action experience, and regularly defends high-stakes matters involving claims of wage and hour law violations, employee misclassification, unfair competition, false advertising, disability discrimination and privacy violations.”

Evans also serves on the boards of several nonprofits, including the Inner City Law Center, volunteers his services for the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and Public Counsel, and is a founding member of the Skid Row Citation Defense Clinic and has won awards for pro bono work, the firm noted.

Harriet S. Posner, a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, is to be awarded the Anti-Defamation League’s Jurisprudence Award at the 2012 Annual Dinner Celebration on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m., at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. 

“In addition to her long-term support of ADL, Posner sits on multiple nonprofit boards, and has been actively involved with the Center for Early Education since 2001,” the law firm said in a release.

This year’s dinner, according to the release, “will serve as the kick-off to ADL’s 2013 Centennial year of celebration in Los Angeles.”
