Los Angeles County Bar Association Presents Seminar on Ethics

 

The Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Real Property Section on Wednesday, Oct. 3 presents “Ethics: Top Considerations for Real Estate Lawyers in 2012.”

According to a meeting announcement, failure to identify and properly handle common ethical problems is one of the most frequent causes of legal malpractice claims against real estate practitioners.

LACBA’s announcement says:

“This program will provide practical strategies for lawyers in private practice and in-house lawyers to identify and address these common ethical issues, including conflicts of interest and duties related to the negotiation of real estate transactions.”

The program will be presented by a real estate practitioner who is a recognized expert in the field of legal ethics and an experienced insurance broker who specializes in professional liability insurance for the legal profession. The speakers are to include William Holden of Wells Fargo Insurance Services USA and Stanley W. Lamport, Cox Castle & Nicholson LLP. The event begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles County Bar Association, 1055 West 7th Street, 27th Floor.

The Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Healthcare Law Section on Thursday, Oct. 4 will hold its all-day “Ninth Annual Healthcare Law Compliance Symposium.”

According to LACBA’s announcement:

“Virtually every facet of the healthcare industry is subject to a complex web of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations. Government efforts to enforce these laws and punish violators have become increasingly common and successful. With the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the Affordable Care Act, enforcement will only intensify. In this new climate, the need to understand and function in an ever-changing compliance landscape has never been greater.”

The speakers are said to include Lloyd A. Bookman, Hooper, Lundy & Bookman; Jack P. DiCanio, Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP; Jill H. Gordon, Nixon Peabody LLP; Dietmar A. Grellmann, California Hospital Association; William A. Helvestine, Crowell & Moring LLP; Thomas E. Jeffry Jr, Arent Fox LLP; and John P. Krave, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc.
