Governor Names New Superior Court Judge in Imperial County

Gov. Jerry Brown yesterday named Ruth Bermudez Montenegro the Imperial Superior Court.
Montenegro, 44, of El Centro, has served as assistant county counsel for Imperial County since last year and was deputy county counsel in 2000.
In between, she served as director of human resources for the Imperial Community College District from 2000 to 2002 and assistant superintendent for the El Centro Elementary School District from 2002 until last year.
Montenegro was an attorney at Horton, Knox, Carter and Foote LLP, an El Centro firm known primarily for its work in water law, from 1993, the year she was admitted to the State Bar, to 2000. Her undergraduate degree is from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and her law degree from UCLA.
Montenegro, a Democrat, fills the vacancy created by the death of Judge Barrett J. Foerster..
