Patel Named Interim Head of Administrative Office of Courts
By a MetNews Staff Writer
The Judicial Council yesterday named Jody Patel as interim administrative director of the courts.
The decision was undertaken at a closed meeting of the council following Wednesday’s surprise resignation of Ronald G. Overholt, who had been the temporary replacement for William Vickrey, who retired last year.
In a statement, Overholt said he had become a “lightning rod” for criticism in the ongoing battle over whether the AOC operates in a heavy-handed fashion, deprives local courts of autonomy, and shows too little concern for the trial courts.
Patel has worked for the AOC since 2006. A former administrator of the Sacramento Superior Court, she directed the AOC’s Sacramento regional office until a reshuffle last year put her in charge of all of the regional offices.
