The Lesbian and Gay Lawyers Association of Los Angeles yesterday announced its selection of retired Pacific Palisades attorney Laurie Hasencamp to receive its 2011 Co-Presidents Award.

The award is slated to be presented at LGLA’s 32nd Annual Awards Dinner Gala and Silent Auction on Feb. 12 in recognition of Hasencamp’s “many years of dedicated, philanthropic service to the LGBT community, LGLA and the California legal community at large,” a spokesperson for the group said.

Hasencamp, who retired from active practice in 2002, “is the embodiment of dedication to equality with an activist spirit to match,” the spokesperson said. The attorney serves on the executive committee of the Lambda Legal Board of Directors, the USC School of Law Board of Councilors, The Williams Institute Founders Council and Legal Council, the Board of the Serra Project—which provides housing for homeless people with HIV/AIDS, and the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation

LGLA also has selected The Trevor Project— a national organization which advocates for the acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, and provides a crisis intervention hotline for members of the LGBTQ community—to receive its 2011 Community Service Award.

The group is named after a 1994 Academy Award-winning short film, Trevor—which is about a gay 13-year-old boy who, when rejected by friends because of his sexuality, makes an attempt to take his life—and was established by the film’s creators, according to its website.

LGLA has pledged all proceeds from a silent auction scheduled to take place at the awards ceremony to The Trevor Project.

The keynote speaker for the event is Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the UC Irvine School of Law, and musical entertainment will be provided by Tony-nominated cabaret singer Sharon McNight.

Tickets are $120 for LGLA members, $135 for non-members and $75 for law students. The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel, located at 1755 North Highland Avenue in Hollywood. Those interested in attending are asked to call (213) 486-4443 or visit the LGLA website at www.lgla.net.
