By a MetNews Staff Writer

The Judicial Council yesterday issued a request for proposals from executive search firms to assist in the recruitment of a new administrative director to succeed William C. Vickrey, who retired on Friday.

Proposals must be received by 1 p.m. on October 7, the council said in a release.

Desired candidates must have a “proven expertise in government/public sector recruitment (or equivalent), a demonstrated comprehensive national reach, and a demonstrated ability to conduct a successful recruitment,” according to the California courts website.

The selected firm will meet with the Administrative Director Search Working Group of the Judicial Council of California to determine attributes that will be included in the final job description for the administrative director position.

In addition, the selected firm is expected to recruit candidates, screen and evaluate applicants and present its recommendations for candidates to be interviewed by the Working Group.

The director is appointed by the Judicial Council, and is tasked with leading the Administrative Office of the Courts, the staff arm of the Judicial Council.

Chief Deputy Administrative Director Ronald G. Overholt has been appointed as interim administrative director until a permanent director is found.

The request for proposals and specifications is posted on the California Courts website at www.courts.ca.gov/15404.htm.
