Davis Wright Tremaine LLP yesterday announced the addition of media and Internet law attorney Nancy Derwin-Weiss to its Los Angeles office.

She joins the firm from Wildman Harrold.

Mary Haas, partner-in-charge of Davis Wright Tremaine’s Los Angeles office, said the addition of Derwin-Weiss “demonstrates our commitment to the dynamic media and entertainment industry,’ adding that the firm plans to “continue to pursue talented individuals like Nancy for all of our industry groups as our clients grow into new areas that require specialized expertise.”

Derwin-Weiss’ practice involves counseling clients on advertising, marketing and promotional legal issues, according to a firm spokesperson, noting that the attorney recently served as outside counsel to Summit Entertainment.

Summit Entertainment’s General Counsel David Friedman remarked that Derwin-Weiss has “unparalleled expertise in handling innovative marketing campaigns” which he credited for the success of a slate of films, including the “Twilight Saga” franchise.

Such success, Friedman said, “would not have been attained without the key marketing strategies implemented and Nancy’s critical understanding of the legal issues surrounding them.”

Derwin-Weiss spent the last four years with Wildman Harrold in Los Angeles.  Prior to 2007, she spent seven years in the legal departments of Paramount Pictures and Paramount Digital Entertainment.

Outside of her law practice, Derwin-Weiss serves on the planning committee for the USC Entertainment Law Institute and on the board of the California Women’s Law Center.

She holds an undergraduate degree in English from UCLA and attended Loyola Law School before joining the State Bar in 1990.
