Hogan Lovells yesterday announced the addition of Timothy J. Conley, former vice president and general counsel to Honda North America Inc., as of counsel in the firm’s automotive industry sector group.

Carl J. Chiappa, who heads the group, remarked that Conley,  “has tremendous insight into the industry’s changing dynamics and complex regulatory environment” with over 30 years of experience as in-house counsel to multiple automotive manufacturers.

Before joining Honda, Conley served as general counsel for Mazda North American Operations and assistant general counsel to Nissan Motor Company in the United States, according to the firm release.

His practice involves advising franchisors on market representation matters, including dealer upgrade and incentive programs; product allocation matters; add-points; terminations; and the development and enforcement of dealer performance standards.

Conley, a past president of the Southern California chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel, completed both his undergraduate and legal education at UCLA before being licensed to practice in 1973.

Davis Wright Partner

In other news, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP yesterday announced the addition of Marc Kenny as a corporate partner in its Los Angeles office.

Kenny said he was “extremely impressed by the character and quality of the team at Davis Wright Tremaine for many years,” and hat he was “am thrilled to join such a talented bench.”

The attorney predicted that the firm’s “low leverage business model coupled with its impressive industry-specific platform will allow me to continue to deliver value and efficiency to my clients and offer me an opportunity to develop new relationships.”

Mary Haas, partner-in-charge of the Los Angeles office, remarked that Kenny “brings an impressive background in corporate and transactional matters to help us build our corporate capabilities in Los Angeles.”

She opined that Kenny’s “strengths in corporate law and transactional matters in the U.S. and abroad—combined with his significant industry experience in media, entertainment, technology, communications and energy—aligns perfectly with our existing strengths in this market.”

Corporate Lawyer

Prior to joining the firm, Kenny worked as a senior in-house corporate and securities counsel role at DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. and corporate associate positions at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP in London and Silicon Valley, and at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP in Los Angeles, the Davis Wright release said.

He opened his own corporate law practice in 2006, providing counseling to clients on private equity, M&A, strategic alliances and corporate finance transactions with a particular emphasis on middle-market transactions in the U.S. and abroad.

Kenny is also active in the Los Angeles County Bar Association, serving on the executive committees of the  Business & Corporations Law Section and the International Law Section.

The attorney is a graduate of Pennsylvania’s Bucknell University and the Boston University School of Law. He joined the State Bar in 1995.
