Governor Taps Local Attorney as General Counsel for ALRB

Gov. Jerry Brown yesterday named Deputy Federal Public Defender Sylvia Torres-Guillen to serve as general counsel to the Agricultural Labor Relations Board.

This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $155,000.

Torres-Guillen, 45, joined the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Los Angeles immediately after gaining admission to the State Bar in 1993.

She is the co-chair of the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Latina Commission, co-president of the Latina Lawyers Bar Association, vice-president of the Mexican American Bar Foundation, and a member of the State Bar of California’s Council on Access and Fairness.

The attorney earned her law degree from UC Berkeley after graduating from Harvard University.

Torres-Guillen is a Democrat.
