Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP yesterday announced the addition of Jeryl A. Bowers to its Century City office as a partner with its Corporate practice group.

Bowers most recently was a partner at K&L Gates in Los Angeles and he previously held general counsel positions at Medialive International Holdings Inc. and PetSmart.com Inc.

He remarked that he was “excited about joining Sheppard Mullin, a top-notch full service firm with a strong corporate practice and significant footprint in California” and become “part of a partnership that values teamwork and fosters collegiality.” Bowers added that he was also “impressed with  firm management’s continued dedication to growing the Corporate practice group.”

Guy N. Halgren, chairman of the firm, opined that Bowers’ practice is “an excellent fit with our formidable Corporate practice in Los Angeles and throughout the state, including sharing existing firm clients Beckman Coulter and Ticketmaster,” and praised the attorney’s “impressive M&A and general corporate background, which includes private practice and corporate counsel experience.”

Bowers concentrates his practice in mergers and acquisitions and general corporate areas, including IP licensing.  His recent representations include: Beckman Coulter Inc. in the divestiture of its MicroPlate Reader Products Division; Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. in the sale of its IATS division to First American Payment Systems; Mitek Corporation in the acquisition of Keragis Corporation; Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. in connection with a licensing agreement with Apple Inc.; and MediaLive International, Inc. and Aristocrat Technologies Inc. in connection with various IP licensing agreements.

The attorney graduated from Howard University in 1990 and from the University of Chicago Law School in 1993. He joined the California State Bar in 2000.

Bowers is the latest of17 partners to join Sheppard Mullin in 2010 and the second to join its Los Angeles offices, following the addition of Jon Atzen, formerly of DLA Piper, to Sheppard Mullin’s downtown location earlier this year.  Sheppard Mullin has 200 attorneys based in its Los Angeles and Century City locations and the firm’s Corporate practice group includes 100 attorneys firmwide.
