State Bar Extends Time for Dues Payment, MCLE Compliance

By a MetNewsStaff Writer

The State Bar has extended the time that members have to pay dues and comply with MCLE requirements without penalty, a spokesperson said yesterday.

Pursuant to an action taken Friday by the Bar Operations Committee of the Board of Governors, members have until March 30 to pay the annual dues of $410. Members of MCLE Compliance Group 1—those with surnames beginning with the letters A through G—have until that date to submit their proof of compliance, the spokesperson said.

The due date for State Bar dues was previously extended to March 1 because Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed the dues bill last October, citing concerns with the State Bar’s management. In January, however, the governor signed an urgency measure, SB 55 by Sen. Ellen Corbett, D-San Leandro, which restored the dues authority, setting dues at the same rate as last year.

In a signing message to the Senate, Schwarzenegger said he was “pleased that the State Bar has taken these concerns seriously and has taken commendable steps to address these problems.”
