A memorial for Deputy Public Defender Shereen J. Jaffe has been set for Sunday in Hermosa Beach, colleagues said yesterday.

The 10 a.m. event is slated to take place at the southeast corner of Valley Park, located at Valley Drive and Gould Avenue, near the home Jaffe had shared with her husband and daughter.

Jaffe died on Monday after a four-year battle with breast cancer.

Assistant Public Defender Ronald L. Brown asked those who wish to attend to not wear black since the event is intended as a celebration of Jaffe’s life.

Attendees are also asked to bring written descriptions of their memories of Jaffe and photographs that can be assembled so that Jaffe’s daughter will have something to remember her mother by.

Jaffe was a graduate of UC Irvine and Southwestern Law School and spent her entire career with the Public Defender’s office since being admitted to practice in 1992.

Deputy Public Defender Pamela Villanueva described her friend and colleague as “a tireless advocate and a brilliant trial attorney,” and “an amazing woman that will always be my model for how to live.”

Fellow Deputy Public Defender Albert Camacho Jr. described Jaffe as “one of those rare people that understood how precious a gift life is,” who “took full advantage of every day allotted to her.”

He recalled Jaffe had “a great sense of humor” and that “you could get her to laugh at just about anything.”
