Justice Moreno to Retire

California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno will retire effective Feb. 28, the MetNews learned late yesterday.

Moreno, 62, was named to the state high court in 2001 by then-Gov. Gray Davis. The State Bar Commission on Judicial Nominees had unanimously rated him “exceptionally well qualified.”

He was, at the time, a judge of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, appointed to his lifetime position in 1998 by President Bill Clinton.

Moreno previously served as a judge of the Compton Municipal Court, appointed by Gov. George Deukmejian,  and the Los Angeles Superior Court, placed there by Gov. Pete Wilson.
