California business and real estate law firm Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis said yesterday that it is expanding its litigation practice group with the addition of associate Alan D. Hearty in its Century City office.

Hearty was previously with Alston + Bird for nearly six years, and his practice focuses on commercial litigation, with an emphasis on real estate litigation.

He represents owners and developers in litigation regarding the interpretation and enforcement of a variety of real estate contracts, including development agreements and purchase and sale agreements. He also represents commercial real estate owners in connection with easement claims and chain of title issues and major telecommunications companies with respect to network real estate disputes.

Born and raised in Ireland, Hearty maintains strong links with the Irish community in the United States, the firm said, and frequently speaks to Irish companies and government agencies on matters related to the American legal system.

Tony Natsis, managing partner of Allen Matkins’ Century City office and chair of the firm’s real estate department, said that Hearty “will help deepen the firm’s strong litigation capabilities,” adding: “His arrival, combined with the group of talented attorneys we have added over the past year, illustrates the growth of our firm in strategic practice areas.”

While at Alston + Bird, Hearty practiced along with litigation partner Scott Leipzig, who joined Allen Matkins’ Century City office last month.

Hearty graduated from University College Dublin in 1996 with an honors degree in business and law. He was admitted to the New York and California state bars in 2004.

He joins Allen Matkins’ litigation practice group of approximately 80 attorneys statewide.

Founded in 1977, Allen Matkins is a California-based firm with approximately 220 attorneys practicing out of seven offices, including other offices in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco, San Diego, Del Mar Heights and Walnut Creek.
