The Los Angeles County Bar Association and Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles have joined 37 law firms, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank in the second annual Food from the Bar campaign.

The four-week effort—in which participants contribute money, donate food and/or volunteer—is slated to run from April 19 through May 14, and is intended to benefit low-income children, seniors and working families throughout the county, a spokesperson for the Foodbank said.

Last year 30 firms and legal organizations raised nearly $200,000 and 14,400 pounds of food in the inaugural event, the spokesperson said. This year’s campaign is timed to help provide more than 1 million meals to county residents, one in seven of whom are in need of food, the spokesperson added.

Michael Flood, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, said the campaign “helps to fill a critical void in the summer months when historically our food supplies dwindle, but demand is high,” and he expressed gratitude to those willing to participate.

“Because of their efforts, many families in our community won’t have to worry about how to feed their children during the summer months,” he remarked.

Participants in this year’s event include Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld; Alston & Bird; Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis; Arnold & Porter; Baker & Hostetler; Bingham McCutchen; Bryan Cave; Davis Wright Tremaine; DLA Piper; Goodwin Proctor; Hennigan, Bennett & Dorman; Howrey; Irell & Manella; Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro; Jonnell Agnew & Associates; Jones Day; Katten Muchin Rosenman; Kirkland and Ellis; Latham & Watkins; Levinson Arshonsky & Kurtz; Manatt, Phelps & Phillips; McGuireWoods; McKenna Long & Aldridge; Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy; Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp; Morrison & Foerster; Munger Tolles & Olson; Paul Hastings; Perkins Coie; Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan; Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton; Sidley Austin; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; WilmerHale; and Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker.

The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is a nonprofit, charitable organization established in 1973 and is one of the largest food banks in the United States. Through a network of 550 charitable agencies, the Foodbank says, it supplies enough food for 750,000 meals each week in Los Angeles County.
