By a MetNews Staff Writer

The Criminal Justice Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association yesterday announced its selection of Judge William R. Pounders as the recipient of its Judge of the Year award.

Deputy District Attorney Alan Jackson and Pasadena practitioner Richard A. Hutton of Hutton & Wilson were also named by the group as the Prosecutor and Defense Attorney of the Year, while California Supreme Court Justice Carlos R. Moreno was chosen to receive the group’s Career Achievement award.

Also, the group said it will posthumously honor Santa Monica attorney Robert Berke, who died last December.

Berke practiced law in Los Angeles for 36 years, first as a public defender and later at the Center for Law in the Public Interest and at private firms. He also served as president of the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice and as president of the Pacific Palisades Democratic Club.

The honorees are slated to receive their awards at a dinner ceremony next Thursday at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Those interested in attending are asked to contact LACBA Member Services by calling (213) 896-6560 or through the group’s website, www.lacba.org.
