Harris Still Leads in Contest for California Attorney General

San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris (D) maintained her small lead over Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley (R) yesterday, as more vote-by-mail and provisional ballots were counted in the close contest for California attorney general.

As of 3:16 p.m. yesterday, Secretary of State Debra Bowen reported, Harris had 4,245,849 votes, or 45.9 percent, to Cooley’s 4,216,450, or 45.6 percent, giving Harris a lead of 29,399 votes.

Election officials in each of the 58 counties must complete their tallies by Nov. 30 and report the results to Bowen’s office by Dec. 3.
