Robert E. Kohn, a litigator with Hill Farrer & Burrill, has been named president of Duke University’s Duke Club of Southern California, the firm has announced.

The club includes over 4,000 alumni, parents and friends of Duke University, the firm said Wednesday in a release.

Kohn attended Duke as an undergraduate, and he received his law degree from the school in 1992 before clerking for Eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Joel F. Dubina. He joined the California State Bar in 1999.

In his private practice, Kohn focuses on litigation and appellate work. He is also a member of the Federal Bar Association, serving as co-chair of its committee on Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Trial Practice, and serves on the editorial board of The Federal Lawyer.

Hill Farrer said the Duke Club of Southern California is participating in a new initiative launched last Friday called “Duke Alums Engage,” which invites members and friends of the Duke community to join nonprofits in a new civic engagement program using knowledge in service to society.

In launching that initiative locally, and with Kohn’s help, the club presented a half-day series of mentoring workshops for college and careers in the arts and entertainment industries, attended by the entire student body of the recently-opened Fernando Pullum Performing Arts High School.
