Best Best & Krieger partner Scott Campbell, who serves as city attorney for Avalon on Santa Catalina Island, has been elected president of the City Attorney’s Association of Los Angeles County.

The group voted Campbell in to a one-year term, beginning immediately, at its annual luncheon on Thursday

Campbell commented that he was “excited to continue serving this important group in an expanded capacity,” after having served as the association’s vice president.

He said his goals will be to increase participation, host an engaging conference in Santa Barbara this spring and continue to sponsor guest lecturers on timely topics for the association’s monthly meetings. Recent topics have included developments in the law surrounding medical marijuana and climate change.

“If there is a hot issue, we want to address it head on,” Campbell said, noting that the association’s presentations and events qualify for MCLE credit.

The association is open to all attorneys who practice municipal law in Los Angeles County. Members include in-house city attorney staff from Pasadena, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Torrance and Culver City, as well as attorneys from firms that contract to cities to provide city attorney services, Campbell said.

Avalon’s City Council selected Best Best & Krieger to serve as its contract city attorney in August and in September approved the appointment of Campbell, who is based in Best Best & Krieger’s Los Angeles office, as the city’s legal adviser.
