Brian Arnold, formerly with the Intellectual Property group at Kirkland & Ellis’ Los Angeles office, has joined Thomas Whitelaw & Tyler LLP as a partner, the firm said.

Arnold, whose practice involves patent infringement litigation, trademark litigation, International Trade Commission proceedings, general commercial litigation, securities fraud actions, and transactional patent and trademark work, will be based out of the firm’s Irvine office, Thomas Whitelaw said in a release.

Joseph E. Thomas, managing partner of Thomas Whitelaw, praised Arnold’s “tremendous depth in patent litigation” as “an invaluable addition” to the firm.

Prior to joining Kirkland & Ellis’s Los Angeles office in May 2001, Arnold worked as an associate at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, and White & Case in Los Angeles.

He graduated from Loyola Law School after receiving a master’s degree from Claremont Graduate University and an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Pomona College

Arnold said he was “impressed with [Thomas Whitelaw’s] bench strength, high-stakes cases, and attractive value proposition,” and that he was looking forward to practicing with the firm.

A 19-member firm, Thomas Whitelaw maintains offices in Irvine and San Francisco and focuses on complex commercial, product liability, intellectual property and general business matters.
