Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed Encino tax and sports attorney Paul Weisman to the Acupuncture Board.

The board states its mission as benefiting, educating and protecting the public through regulation of licensure, development of education standards, provision of consumer information and enforcement of the Acupuncture Licensure Act.

The appointment, made Friday, requires Senate confirmation.

Weisman, 51, hung his own shingle in 1991, establishing the Law Office of Paul H. Weisman after spending two years as a senior associate at Goldfarb, Sturman and Averbach.

Prior to that, he served four years as District Counsel for Internal Revenue Service and one year as an attorney for the Legislation and Regulations Division of the Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service.

He has also served as an alternate board member for the Los Angeles County Assessment Appeals Board since 2002.

A graduate of UC Davis and Loyola Law School, Weisman is a Republican and was admitted to the State Bar in 1982.

Compensation for the position is $100 per diem.
