By a MetNews Staff Writer

The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California is soliciting comments regarding the reappointment of incumbent Magistrate Judges Andrew J. Wistrich, Paul L. Abrams, and Suzanne H. Segal.

The court announced that it will convene a citizen’s merit screening committee to consider comments from members of the bar and the public and issue its recommendation to the court, as required by federal statutes.

Magistrate judges exercise the jurisdiction delegated to them by law and assigned by the district judges. Full-time magistrates serve for a renewable term of eight years.

Abrams’ term expires in January 2010, while Wistrich’s term will expire in April of that year and Segal’s in July of the same year.

Comments should be directed to Steven W. Cohen, Human Resources Manager at the United States District Court, 312 N. Spring Street, Room 535, Los Angeles 90012, and must be received not later than Jan. 15, 2009.
