Southwestern Law School’s Donald E. Biederman Entertainment and Media Law Institute selected Wayne Levin to receive its inaugural Entertainment and Media Alumnus of the Year Award, the school has announced.

The award honors outstanding contributions to the legal profession, leadership in the entertainment industry, and dedication to the Southwestern community , the school said.

Professor Robert Lind presented the award to Levin at the law school’s entertainment alumni dinner, held at the California Yacht Club on Oct. 11.

Lind praised Levin as “the personification of an alumnus who knows what it means to give back to the institution that helped him acquire the knowledge and skills that have placed him at the forefront of the motion picture and television branches of the entertainment industry.”

Levin, a 1988 graduate of the law school, is the general counsel and executive vice president of corporate operations for Lionsgate Entertainment.

Before Lionsgate acquired Trimark Holdings in October 2000, Levin served as the head of business and legal affairs for Trimark Pictures. Prior to that, he worked in private practice for several years specializing in entertainment law, criminal law, and litigation.

He has served as an adjunct professor at the law school for over 14 years, teaching courses in financing and distributing independent films and motion picture production law.
